What is a Vietnam Investor Visa?

An investment visa, also known as a DT Visa, is issued to foreign investors in Vietnam. These visa holders could be the owners, capital-contributing members or shareholders of foreign invested companies and representatives of foreign investors. The DT Visa permits the investors to transit through, enter, and exit the country for one to five years.

4 Types of Vietnam Investor Visa

Depending on how much money you invest, you can apply for one of four different types of investor visas. Each type of visa can allow you for a long-term stay in Vietnam for a period of up to five years.

DT1 Visa

A DT1 Visa is issued to foreign investors and representatives of foreign organizations who invest in Vietnam with a capital contribution of at least VND 100 billion or who invest in the business of investment incentives or areas of investment incentives designated by the Vietnamese government.

DT2 Visa

A DT2 Visa is issued to foreign investors and representatives of foreign organizations who invest in Vietnam with a capital contribution between VND 50 billion and VND 100 billion or who invest in the business of industries and areas of investment incentives or areas of investment incentives designated by the Vietnamese government.

DT3 Visa

How Do I Get An Investor Visa Of Vietnam?

Getting an investor visa of Vietnam depends on where you apply for it. Overall, there are three main ways to get an investor visa of Vietnam.

1. How To Get an Investor Visa When Being In Vietnam

You must first compile the following requirements:

  1. Original and valid passport
  2. Enterprise Registration Certificate or Investment Registration Certificate (certified copy) of invested company in Vietnam
  3. Temporary residence registration form
  4. Registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the business operating in Vietnam (Form NA16)
  5. Form NA5
  6. 4x6cm photo with white background
  7. Proof of legal status
  8. Letter of invitation from the company sponsoring you
  9. Lawyer license if you are a lawyer

Once you have acquired all the necessary paperwork, present it to the Vietnam Immigration Department in Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City, depending on where your business is located.

The Vietnam Investor Visa takes five working days to process, after which it will be stamped in your passport.

2. How To Get an Investor Visa Outside Vietnam

Before applying for a DT visa from a foreign country, you must get your Visa Approval Letter. Here are the required documents for obtaining a Visa Approval Letter: Requirements 1 to 5 from the previous section, along with a Form NA2 with Barcode, a Foreigners’ preclearance request to enter Vietnam.

You must first obtain your Visa Approval Letter before applying for a Vietnam investor visa from a foreign country. You will need to prepare requirements 1 through 5 from the previous section and a Form NA2 with Barcode to acquire a Visa Approval Letter.

Once you have acquired all the necessary paperwork, bring it to the Vietnam Immigration Department in Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City, depending on where your business is located.

Once you receive your visa approval letter after five working days, you can now apply for your investment visa at the nearby Vietnam embassy or consulate general with the following documents:

  • Original passport valid for at least six months
  • Visa approval letter
  • Two 4x6cm photos on white background
  • Form NA5

Processing the visa can take up to 5–7 working days. To receive your passport with the investor visa, you must be at the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate General on the scheduled date.

3. How To Get an Investor Visa Outside Vietnam

You must first get a Visa Approval Letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department to be eligible for an investor visa that you can obtain upon arrival. The following paperwork will be submitted on your behalf by the employees of your business or its representative in Vietnam:

  • Certified copy of the investor’s passport
  • Certified copy of Business Registration Certificate
  • Seal registration certificate
  • Form NA16
  • Form NA2 with Barcode

Send the necessary paperwork to the Vietnam Immigration Department’s office in Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City. The Vietnam Immigration Department will issue the visa approval letter to your company’s employees on the scheduled date after receiving payment of the visa letter fee.

Once you arrive at the airport, you will need to provide the following documentation to have the visa stamped on your passport:

  • Original passport valid for at least six months
  • Visa approval letter
  • Two 4x6cm photos with white background
  • Form N1, also known as the entry and exit form
  • Visa stamping fee of 25$ for a single entry visa valid for one or three months, or 50$ for multiple entries valid for one or three months

How Long Is the Investor Visa Valid For?

The validity of the Vietnam Investor Visa varies between 12 months and five years.

  • DT1 and DT2 visas are valid for a maximum of 5 years.
  • DT3 visa is only valid for a maximum of 3 years.
  • DT4 visa is only valid for a maximum of 12 months.
