If you are a foreign national and want to work in Taiwan, you must get all 3 of the following:
- Taiwan Work Permit, which authorizes you to work
- Taiwan Visa, which allows you to travel to Taiwan for the purpose of employment
- Taiwan Residence Permit (Alien Resident Certificate (ARC)), which allows you to long-term live in Taiwan

Type of Work Permit in Taiwan
Type A Work Permit for Professional Employee
It is a common type of work permit! According to the Taiwan Immigration Department, a person must have a work permit if working in Taiwan. The person can apply for this type of work permit if the below requirements can be met.
Employer requirement:
- Annual sales is NTD$10,000,000 or more (for most recent year or the average of previous 3 years)
- For a newly set up company or branch, the requirement is changed to NTD$5,000,000 of minimum capital amount
- For a representative office, the business proof should be provided
Employee requirement:
- Master degree or bachelor degree plus 2 years of working experience
- Minimum salary around NTD$48,000
Type B Work Permit for Responsible Manager
It is also a common type of work permit for the responsible manager. The person can apply for this type of work permit if the below requirements can be met.
Employer requirement:
- 1 business entity can only apply for 1 responsible manager
- 1/3 of foreign investor
- Annual sales is NTD$3,000,000 or more (for most recent year or the average of previous 3 years)
- For a newly set up company or branch, the requirement is changed to NTD$500,000 of minimum capital amount
- For a representative office, the business proof should be provided
Employee requirement:
- None
Gold Card for Special Professional Employee
It is a new type of work permit designed for employees who have special professions. The person can apply for this type of work permit if the below requirements can be met.

Employee requirement:
- Possess the special expertise announced by the Ministry of Labor or central authorities
- Monthly salary is NTD$160,000 or more (current or in the past 3 years)

CAN I APPLY FOR A RESIDENT VISA WHILE I STAY IN TAIWAN WITH A VISITOR VISA?
If you are already in Taiwan with a Visitor Visa for employment purposes (such as business, investment, employment-seeking), you do not have to leave the country to apply for a Resident Visa. You can apply to turn your Visitor Visa into a Resident Work Visa at the Bureau of Consular Affairs in Taiwan.
You must apply for the Taiwan Resident (Work) Visa after your employer obtains your work permit, and at least 8 days before your Visitor Visa expires.
Once the BOCA issues your work visa, you must apply for a Taiwan residence permit at a local service center of the National Immigration Agency within 15 days.
CAN I JOIN THE TAIWAN NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE IF I AM A FOREIGNER WORKING IN TAIWAN?
Yes, you join the Taiwan national health insurance immediately once you are on board with the company if you are hired by the Taiwan company.
