Taiwan – Interest-Free Tax Relief Offered in Response to U.S. Tariffs

Interest-Free Tax Relief Offered in Response to U.S. Tariffs

As the U.S. enacts reciprocal tariffs, many Taiwanese businesses and individuals are facing financial challenges. To assist those affected, the Ministry of Finance’s Southern National Tax Bureau has introduced a new policy offering interest-free extensions or installment payment options for taxes.

This policy applies to various taxes, including income tax, value added tax, commodity tax, property tax, and others. Taxpayers unable to meet the payment deadline due to the impact of U.S. tariffs can apply for a delay in tax payments, extending the period by up to one year or allowing for installments over 36 months (one month per installment). Importantly, there are no restrictions on the tax amount eligible for this program.

Eligible applicants include the following.

  1. Businesses that have experienced a reduction in revenue due to the U.S. tariffs.
  2. Individuals who have faced salary cuts, involuntary layoffs, or reduced working hours due to tariff impacts.
  3. Recipients of government assistance, such as relief, subsidies, or support programs related to the tariff policies.

Taxpayers who wish to apply must submit their request by June 30, 2025, along with necessary documentation (e.g., salary reduction notice). The application can be completed through the Ministry of Finance’s e-tax portal or by mail. For more information or assistance, taxpayers can call the toll-free hotline at 0800-000321.

This initiative ensures that taxpayers impacted by global trade policies have access to flexible payment solutions during the tax filing season.
