Meta Unveils Movie Gen: An AI-Powered Video Creation Tool
Meta has introduced Movie Gen, an advanced AI-powered video generator capable of producing high-definition videos complete with sound. This comes shortly after OpenAI announced Sora, its text-to-video model, although Meta has yet to make Movie Gen publicly accessible.
Movie Gen enables users to create videos from simple text inputs and can also edit existing footage or still images. The AI-generated audio in the videos complements the visuals with ambient sounds, effects, and background music. The videos can be generated in various aspect ratios to suit different needs.
In addition to generating new content, Movie Gen can customize still images or existing videos by altering elements, changing the style, transitions, or adding new components that weren’t previously part of the footage.
As AI-driven video and image generators continue to advance, major companies like Meta, Google, and OpenAI, along with emerging startups, are pushing the boundaries of this technology. OpenAI’s Sora, which was announced in February, still hasn’t launched publicly, and one of its co-leads recently joined Google, highlighting the competitive race in AI development.
