OpenAI Launches Seoul Office to Meet ChatGPT Demand

OpenAI has announced its expansion into South Korea by establishing its first official office in Seoul, reinforcing its commitment to the fast-growing Asian market. The move follows a significant rise in the adoption of ChatGPT across the country, which now ranks second globally in terms of paid subscriber numbers, just behind the United States.

To strengthen its presence, OpenAI has also formed an entity in South Korea. The company has also begun recruiting talent to support strategic collaborations and deepen engagement with local partners. More updates regarding its plans in South Korea are expected to be revealed in the near future.

Jason Kwon, Chief Strategy Officer, emphasized Korea’s potential in artificial intelligence, stating that the nation’s comprehensive AI infrastructure—from semiconductor innovation to software development.

Earlier in the year, OpenAI entered into a partnership with Kakao, a prominent Korean tech company, to co-develop AI products. This collaboration highlights OpenAI’s broader vision to integrate its technology into everyday tools and services in South Korea.
