🌟 Hong Kong | Companies Registry Data for the First Half of 2025
As of June 30, 2025, the Hong Kong Companies Registry reported a record 1,494,806 local companies, with 84,293 new incorporations in the first half of the year, alongside 761 new non-Hong Kong companies, bringing their total to 15,509. This growth reflects the government’s pro-business policies, including two key amendments: the Companies (Amendment) Ordinance 2025, enabling treasury shares and paperless communication, and the Companies (Amendment) (No. 2) Ordinance 2025, introducing a re-domiciliation regime for foreign corporations. The period also saw 5,970 property charge registrations, 1.68 million documents filed, 2.6 million e-searches, 116 new Limited Partnership Funds (total 1,099), 109 new Open-Ended Fund Companies (total 579), 350 new trust or company service provider licenses (total 6,971), and 71 new money lender licenses (total 2,046).
🤖 Singapore | A New Era of AI-powered Image Editing in Gemini
Google has launched Nano Banana, a cutting-edge image editing tool within the Gemini app developed by DeepMind. Designed to solve the problem of edits that alter a subject’s true appearance, Nano Banana ensures consistency in facial details, pets, and objects while enabling bold creative transformations. Users can upload a photo, describe changes, and instantly generate refined results, from outfit and scene swaps to seamless photo merging, object adjustments, and applying textures or styles across images. By combining accuracy with natural results, Nano Banana sets a new standard for AI-driven photo editing.
💵 Taiwan | Reporting Tax Evasion Requires Concrete Evidence
The National Taxation Bureau (NTB) has observed an increase in tax evasion reports based solely on online posts or media articles, which often lack evidence and waste administrative resources. According to the “Operational Guidelines for Handling Tax Violation and Evasion Cases,” whistleblowers must provide their name and address, details of the alleged violator, a clear description of the violation, and concrete evidence. Reports relying only on public information will be dismissed unless additional proof is submitted. The NTB advises individuals to first verify on the Ministry of Finance’s Taxation Portal whether a business is required to issue uniform invoices. If violations are suspected, whistleblowers should submit specific transaction details, such as the business name, product purchased, amount, payment method, date, location, and supporting documents (e.g., receipts, payment records), to ensure the report is valid for investigation.
📑 Vietnam | Regulatory Framework for Testing P2P Lending
On July 1, 2025, Decree No. 94/2025/ND-CP on the regulatory sandbox for the banking sector took effect, providing a legal framework for innovation. To implement it, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) issued two key decisions on P2P lending: Decision No. 2866/QD-NHNN (July 22, 2025) limits borrowing to VND 100 million per platform and VND 400 million across all platforms to manage risks and safeguard stability, while Decision No. 2970/QD-NHNN (August 11, 2025) requires P2P firms to connect with the National Credit Information Center (CIC) for credit data sharing and monitoring. Together, these regulations support fintech growth, enhance transparency, protect lenders and borrowers, and build trust in Vietnam’s emerging fintech ecosystem.
📫 Malaysia | E-Invoice Implementation in Malaysia (Issue 2 of 2)
Businesses exceeding RM500,000 in annual revenue after being initially exempt must begin e-invoicing from 1 January of the second year following the year the threshold is crossed (e.g., if revenue surpasses RM500,000 in 2026, implementation starts in 2029). Meanwhile, new businesses established in 2023–2025 with revenue below RM500,000 that do not meet exemption criteria are still required to adopt e-invoicing by 1 July 2026. These rules ensure all businesses, regardless of size or growth stage, are aligned with Malaysia’s e-invoicing framework.
📈 Dubai | Sharjah’s Economic Growth Accelerates with Record Investments
Sharjah, September 18, 2025 – Sharjah has reinforced its position as one of the UAE’s most competitive investment hubs, reporting $1.5 billion in capital inflows during H1 2025, a 361% surge from last year, alongside 74 new projects (up 57%) and 2,578 jobs created (up 45%). Key sectors driving this momentum include consumer products, food and beverage, business services, and industrial equipment, with record growth in both investment and employment. Leaders from the SCCI, Shurooq, and SEDD hailed the results as a testament to Sharjah’s investor-friendly environment, visionary leadership, and commitment to sustainable growth. Looking ahead, the emirate aims to channel this rising FDI into innovation, infrastructure, SME development, and job creation, strengthening its role as a regional model of balanced and resilient progress.
