The Pre-Classification Service by Hong Kong’s Trade and Industry Department (TID) assists traders in determining whether a product qualifies as a strategic commodity under the Import and Export Ordinance (Cap. 60). It provides official classification guidance, including the relevant category number, required technical details for future license applications, and a unique reference number to streamline repeated applications. Each submission must focus on a single product and include specifications, brand, model, origin, and end-use. Typically processed within 2 to 3 weeks, the service reduces documentation redundancy, prevents licensing delays, and serves as proof for non-strategic goods.
🧾 Singapore | Navigating GST Audits with IRAS
IRAS conducts GST audits using a risk-based approach to ensure businesses comply with tax laws, educate taxpayers, and simplify processes. Being selected doesn’t imply wrongdoing. Audits may involve emails, calls, or onsite visits, where businesses must provide transaction records and supporting documents and cooperate fully. Maintaining accurate records and using approved software helps avoid penalties, which can reach 200% of underpaid tax. Most audits conclude within 12 months, and businesses can object to assessments. Voluntary disclosures may reduce penalties. Staying compliant involves knowledgeable staff, strong internal controls, and regular reviews of GST returns.
🗓️ Taiwan | Applying for a Job-Seeking Visa After Employment Gold Card Expiry
If you’re not currently employed in Taiwan and your Employment Gold Card is nearing expiration, you can apply for a 6-month job-seeking ARC online via the Foreign Professionals Online Application Platform or in person at a National Immigration Agency Service Center. Prepare your passport, Employment Gold Card, a recent passport-sized photo, and a NTD1,000 fee. One final 6-month extension may be granted if needed. Alternatively, you can apply for a Gold Card extension up to four months before expiry; the system will reuse your previous documents if regulations haven’t changed, though you must re-enter basic information. A self-billed e-invoice is an invoicing method where the buyer, rather than the supplier, issues the invoice for specific transactions such as payments to agents, foreign suppliers, profit distributions, e-commerce sales, gaming payouts, dealings with non-business individuals, and certain interest payments. This approach streamlines tax reporting by allowing the buyer to generate and validate the invoice via platforms like the MyInvois Portal, which includes a QR code for authenticity. Once validated, the buyer shares the invoice with the supplier, eliminating the need for duplicate invoicing and enhancing administrative efficiency.
