🚢 Hong Kong | Requirements for Importing Milk and Milk Beverages into Hong Kong
To import milk or milk beverages into Hong Kong, importers must apply to the Centre for Food Safety, providing: a valid registration certificate from the manufacturing authority, a supply certificate from the manufacturer with a production flowchart, water quality test reports (including coliform bacteria and free residual chlorine levels), chemical and microbiological test reports, a manufacturer’s declaration of shelf-life, a sample of the empty container, clear packaging pictures (showing brand name, product name, ingredients, heat-treatment method, and manufacturer and importer details), and a certificate from the origin authority confirming proper heat-treatment and hygienic handling. Additional information may be required by the government.
🏦 Singapore | MAS Expands Regulation with Protection for Digital Payment Tokens
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced amendments to the Payment Services Act (PS Act), effective April 4, 2024, to broaden the regulation of payment services. The expanded scope includes custodial services for digital payment tokens (DPTs), transmission and exchange of DPTs, and cross-border money transfers, even if the service provider does not handle the funds or DPTs directly. These changes introduce requirements for anti-money laundering, countering terrorism financing, user protection, and financial stability for DPT service providers. Transitional arrangements will be provided for existing entities, which must comply with MAS requirements or cease activities, and safeguarding customer assets regulations will take effect six months later.
💼 Taiwan | Exploring the Taiwan Employment Gold Card Program
Launched in 2018, the Taiwan Employment Gold Card is a 4-in-1 card combining a resident visa, work permit, Alien Resident Certificate (ARC), and re-entry permit, allowing multiple entries to Taiwan over 1-3 years. Applicants can apply online without employment or sponsorship. The card allows holders to freely seek employment, work part-time, and change jobs, with a long-term visa for stays over 180 days and a physical ID for legal residency. Costs range from USD 100 to USD 310 based on nationality and card duration. Processing time is 30 days to 4 months, and eligibility is based on professional skills.

Vietnam is emerging as a prime long-term investment destination, leading Southeast Asia in attracting investors, with anticipated investment growth of 83% by 2030, according to Bain & Company. UOB Bank forecasts 6% GDP growth in Q2 due to robust economic activities, and FDI inflows have surged 7.8% to $8.3 billion by May, the highest in five years. EuroCham and HSBC highlight Vietnam’s increasing business growth and its potential to become ASEAN’s second-largest digital economy by 2030. Standard Chartered notes Vietnam’s shift from low-cost production to high-quality tech capabilities. The Star lauds Vietnam’s rapid startup growth, making it a key player in Southeast Asia’s innovation landscape.

It applies to individuals and firms engaged in activities specified in Paragraph 13 of the AMLA First Schedule and Paragraph 3.3(i) of the BNM Policy Document. Requirements include adopting a risk-based approach, implementing AML/CFT programs, conducting customer due diligence, managing politically exposed persons, and adhering to reporting obligations such as suspicious transactions and record-keeping. Future editions will further detail reporting obligations under AMLA.
