💲 Hong Kong | Welcoming Market Access Measures
The Hong Kong government warmly embraces the recent initiatives by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) to bolster collaboration between Mainland and Hong Kong financial markets. These measures encompass broadening the scope of eligible products for equity exchange-traded funds (ETFs) under Stock Connect, including real estate investment trusts (REITs), supporting the inclusion of the renminbi stock trading counter under Southbound trading of Stock Connect, improving mutual recognition of funds arrangements, and encouraging leading Mainland enterprises to list in Hong Kong. Chief Executive John Lee and Financial Secretary Paul Chan affirm that these steps will fortify Hong Kong’s position as a financial hub, attract capital and high-quality enterprises, offer diverse investment options, and facilitate the internationalization of the offshore Chinese currency (RMB). They express gratitude to the Central People’s Government for its unwavering support and pledge prompt implementation of these measures, alongside complementary actions like waiving stamp duty on REIT unit transfers and enhancing regulatory frameworks for collective investment schemes and REITs.

When a company seeks to hire foreign professionals for specialized roles, both the company and the prospective employees must meet certain criteria. For companies, conditions vary based on their establishment duration, including financial thresholds like minimum capital and turnover, as well as import/export performance and agency commission benchmarks. Foreign workers must fulfill one of several qualifications, such as holding a master’s degree, having a bachelor’s degree with relevant work experience, possessing specialized certifications, demonstrating substantial experience and creativity, or having prior experience in a multinational corporation. These stringent conditions ensure legal compliance and ensure that both the employer and the foreign employees are well-qualified for their roles.
🏦 Vietnam | Vietnam 3rd in Southeast Asia for Startup Investment
According to the 2024 Technology and Innovation Investment Report unveiled at the Vietnam Innovation Forum, Vietnam maintained its third position in both the number of investment deals and total investment in startups in Southeast Asia, with startups receiving $529 million in 2023, a 17% decrease from the previous year. Despite a 9% decline in the number of deals to 122, Vietnam remains an attractive destination in the capital market, notably with nearly 100 funds investing in startups, primarily from Singapore. Healthcare saw a significant investment surge of 391%, while education also experienced a notable increase of 107%. Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Duy Dong affirmed Vietnam’s commitment to fostering innovation through policy support and streamlined regulations, resulting in Vietnam’s rise in the Global Innovation Index to 46th place among 132 countries and territories.
