Hong Kong to Host the Fifth Edition of the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Forum in 2024

In September 2024, Hong Kong, a founding member jurisdiction of the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Mechanism (BRITACOM), will play home to the fifth Conference of the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Forum (BRITACOF). Along with representatives from enterprises, academic institutions, and international organizations, the leaders and representatives of the tax administrations of the jurisdictions along the Belt and Road will be present at the conference.

In addition to facilitating effective communication between tax administrations that support the Belt and Road Initiative and other interested parties like businesses, academic institutions, and international organizations, the conference aims to provide a platform for tax administration cooperation and capacity building among these entities. This would enable the city to contribute to the creation of a sustainable tax environment and solidify Hong Kong’s position as a crucial functional platform for the Belt and Road Initiative.

Every twelve months, member tax administrations alternately host the BRITACOF. Georgia served as the conference’s host, and it took place in Tbilisi in September 2023.

BRITACOM, a non-profit formal platform for tax administration cooperation amongst the jurisdictions that subscribe to the Belt and Road Initiative, was established in 2019 under the direction of the State Taxation Administration. In order to fulfill the goal of inclusive and sustainable development, BRITACOM seeks to remove tax barriers and create a growth-friendly tax environment through collaboration and the sharing of best practices on tax administration issues. This will enable cross-border trade and investment and promote regional economic growth.
