Establishment of Da Nang Free Trade Zone
According to the decision just signed by the Prime Minister, the Da Nang Free Trade Zone has a scale of 1,881 hectares, and will become a regional economic, logistics and technology center in the future. The free trade zone is an unprecedented model, not yet practical in Vietnam.
Da Nang Free Trade Zone is located in non-contiguous locations, including functional areas: production, logistics, trade – services, digital technology industry, information technology and innovation and other types of functional areas. Specifically, location 1 is about 100 hectares wide, location 2 is about 77 hectares, both located in Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Lien Chieu district. Location 3 is about 500 hectares, in Hoa Hiep Bac ward (Lien Chieu district) and Hoa Lien commune (Hoa Vang district). Location 4 is about 559 hectares wide, location 5 is about 90 hectares, both in Hoa Ninh commune, Hoa Vang district. Location 6 is about 154 hectares, in Hoa Nhon and Hoa Ninh communes. Location 7 is about 401 hectares, in Hoa Nhon and Hoa Phu communes, Hoa Vang district.
Da Nang Free Trade Zone is planned and developed on the basis of modern infrastructure, synchronizing the fields of production, trade, logistics, technology and high-quality services, aiming to become a regional economic center, playing a strategic growth role in the Central region and the whole country in the new development context. In the long term, Da Nang Free Trade Zone becomes an important link in the global supply chain network and the Asia-Pacific region; a production center, an international freight transit hub connected to Lien Chieu port, Da Nang international airport and the East-West economic corridor; promoting the development of innovative technology industry, digital transformation, actively contributing to the economic restructuring process of Da Nang after the merger with Quang Nam province.
The Da Nang Free Trade Zone is expected to be linked to the International Financial Center in the city, aiming to form a modern, smart, highly competitive economic ecosystem, creating great spillover effects, enhancing Vietnam’s position in the region and internationally in the context of globalization. The production – logistics functional area will be developed into a modern production and logistics center, integrating technical infrastructure and digitalization, improving productivity and connectivity with regional and global supply chains. The trade – service functional area will form a trade – service space that meets international standards, serving trading activities, duty-free business, tourism, resorts, accommodation, providing business support services, logistics, e-commerce, education, healthcare, entertainment, sports and other types of ancillary services, creating favorable conditions for the development of a knowledge-based economy and regional connectivity. The digital technology, information technology and innovation industrial park and other functional areas will develop into a high-tech and innovation center, gathering digital technology application enterprises, research and development centers, creative startups and digital transformation, enhancing the competitiveness of the country and the region in the global digital economy; developing new technology fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, big data, cloud computing… The development of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone will be implemented according to a roadmap in line with the national socio-economic development strategy, the city’s general planning and approved goals and orientations.
