Hue Aspires to Lead Vietnam's Semiconductor Industry
Hue City People’s Committee has just issued Plan No. 180/KH-UBND implementing “Vietnam semiconductor industry development strategy to 2030 and vision to 2050” in Hue City. The plan is to strive to turn Hue City into one of the centers for research, training, design, and manufacturing of chips and semiconductor circuits. Develop the semiconductor industry in Hue City with the nucleus of industrial parks capable of participating in high value-added stages in the value chain of Vietnam’s semiconductor chip industry. Vision to 2050, Hue City will have an autonomous semiconductor industry ecosystem associated with Hue University, Hue College, and Hue Industrial College as centers for training, research, and development of the semiconductor industry.
Specific goals and plans to prepare infrastructure and human resources; complete mechanisms and investment incentive policies for semiconductor industry development. Attract selective investment in industrial parks, high-tech parks, digital technology industrial parks, and innovation zones for the semiconductor industry, prioritizing areas such as: design, packaging, and testing of semiconductor products; sensors, IoT devices with MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) technology. Along with that, priority should be given to attracting investment in fabless semiconductor design businesses, MEMS specialized chip manufacturing businesses, and IoT chips. Complete and form institutions, training, research and development centers for the semiconductor industry. Coordinate and deploy investment in the Microchip – Semiconductor Laboratory at Hue University. Form a business incubator, develop a startup ecosystem in the semiconductor industry.
Based on the above contents, the Plan proposes solutions for the following tasks: perfecting mechanisms and policies; attract investment; developing semiconductor industry infrastructure and ecosystem; human resource development and other tasks such as: guiding businesses in the city to implement the Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy; guiding on applying the system of standards and technical regulations to improve the quality of semiconductor and electronic products in the city; promoting international cooperation to mobilize resources for the development of the semiconductor and electronics industry; regulating the exploitation, treatment, reuse and treatment of toxic waste in the process of resource exploitation, semiconductor and electronics production; improving the environmental treatment capacity, ensuring full advantage of resources while still ensuring environmental safety; prioritizing and promoting green production projects in the semiconductor field, saving energy, resources, and protecting the local environment.
