Dong Nai Proposes New Free Trade Zone
On the afternoon of March 26, the Working Group of the National Assembly Economic and Finance Committee worked with Dong Nai province on “The situation of implementing land use planning and promulgating documents to implement Land Law in Dong Nai province”.
At the meeting, on behalf of Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Dang Minh Duc, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources reported to the Working Group on the land use plan; which includes a proposal to the Politburo, the National Assembly, and the Government to pay attention and allow Dong Nai to pilot the establishment of a Free Trade Zone model in the Long Thanh Airport area (Long Thanh District and Phuoc An Port, Nhon Trach District).
According to Mr. Dang Minh Duc, Dong Nai is located in the center of the southern key economic region, playing a strategic role in the socio-economic development not only of the Southeast region but also of the whole country. In addition, with a location adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City and connected to the provinces of Binh Duong, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, and Lam Dong; Dong Nai is considered an important bridge between industrial centers and the Central Highlands region, as well as an international trade gateway. Also according to Mr. Duc, with the advantage of Long Thanh Airport, Dong Nai is positioned as an aviation economic center, promoting the development of high-tech industry, logistics and aviation support services in the future.
And to further promote advantages, Dong Nai proposed to be allowed to pilot the establishment of a Free Trade Zone model with a scale of about 1,000 hectares in the area near Long Thanh Airport and Phuoc An Port. “Research and construction of the Free Trade Zone project associated with Long Thanh Airport and Phuoc An Port to serve the needs of international trade, in accordance with the advantage of strategic geographical location, industry advantages, and development orientation of Dong Nai and the Southeast region”, Mr. Dang Minh Duc emphasized.
