Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program [Issue 1 of 4]

In June 2024, the Malaysian government announced planned changes to the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program, a residency scheme offering long-term visas for foreigners to live in the country.

The revised MM2H programme, now includes three categories: Platinum, and Gold, Silver along with a special category for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and Special Financial Zones (SFZ).

In this issue, we discuss the requirements for the PLATINUM Category.

  1. Principal’s Age Requirement
    25 years old & above
  2. Financial Requirements:
  • Deposit/fixed deposit (FD) amounting to USD 1 million
  • A maximum withdrawal of up to 50% is allowed on the principal value of the FD after receiving approval to participate in the MM2H Program, for the purposes of purchasing a house, education, healthcare, and tourism activities in Malaysia.
  1. Participation Fee (One-Off)
  • A participation fee of RM200,000 for the principal applicant (one-off).
  • NO participation fee for dependents.
  1. Purchase Of Residential Property
  • It is mandatory to purchase and own a house after receiving approval to participate in the MM2H Program.
  • The minimum value of the house that can be purchased by participants is RM2 million or above.
  • Reselling the house is not allowed for 10 years. However, upgrading to a new house with a higher value than the owned house is permitted.
  1. Minimum Length of Stay
    Must reside in Malaysia for at least 90 days (cumulative) in a year.
  1. MM2H Pass Validity
    20 years with Multiple Entry Visa (MEV) and to be renewed every 5 years.
  1. Dependents and Foreign Domestic Helper
    Participants are allowed to bring their dependents and Foreign domestic helper.
  1. Medical Treatment
    Allowed to undergo long-term medical treatment in Malaysia.
  1. Business/Investment Activities/ Employment Opportunities
    Participants are allowed to engage in business, make investments, and pursue employment opportunities.
