“Legalized document” means the document is: Legalized by the Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam.
Prior to this Legalization, the document has to be prepared according to the laws of the country in which the document has been issued and will be legalized. Normally this is needed:
- Original document or Copies notarized by the notary public as being true copies of the original; then these are
- Notarized by the competent authorities that such notary public has the authority to notarize the copies; finally, these are
- Legalized by the Embassy of Vietnam.
Validity of legalized documents
The legalized documents are only valid within 3 months from the date of legalization. Hence, to avoid the expiry as well as to save the time and costs, the legalization should be performed within a short time 1-2 months) before the date of submitting the application.
Notarized document
Notarization is applied only for the documents in Vietnamese (or at least in bilingual Vietnamese and a foreign language). There is only one exception, the Passport of Foreign Employee which can also be notarized in Vietnam.
Notarized documents mean copies of the original documents to be notarized at the People’s Committee. The validity of notarized documents is within 6 months as of the notarizing date.
