OpenAI Unveils Advanced Voice Mode to Some ChatGPT Plus Users
OpenAI has unveiled its new Advanced Voice Mode (AVM), currently available to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users. This release marks a significant enhancement in ChatGPT’s capabilities, integrating sophisticated audio and video functionalities powered by the latest iteration of the AI model, GPT-4o. The Advanced Voice Mode offers a more immersive and interactive user experience, featuring real-time conversations that can be interrupted at any time, and a system that can sense and respond to users’ emotions.
Introduced during the Spring Launch event, the AVM leverages a single model approach across audio, vision, and text. This integration allows for seamless processing of inputs and outputs through one neural network, improving the response time and interaction quality compared to previous versions. OpenAI has also implemented strict safety measures, including preset voice options to protect the privacy of voice actors and filters to block requests for copyrighted audio content and inappropriate material.
OpenAI plans to roll out this feature to all ChatGPT Plus users by the fall, following constructive feedback from the initial users. The organization is committed to refining the voice experience based on this alpha phase to ensure it is safe and enjoyable for all. However, features such as video and screen sharing capabilities will be launched later.
Subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, who pay $20 a month, have the opportunity to be part of this small group by receiving direct invitations via email or message through the mobile app. OpenAI assures that additional users will be gradually included on a rolling basis as the testing phase progresses.
